The Glasgow Eastern Merchants & Tradesmens’ Society were delighted to offer assistance to the 77th Glasgow Disabled Scouts troop to help fund their Summer Camp.
This organisation relies solely on volunteers and the dedication shown by them is truly humbling. The opportunities offered to these young people by the Scouts is a joy to see and as they rely on fund raising and charitable donations, we felt this was a truly worthy cause to support.
The 77th Glasgow Disabled Scouts Troop is a volunteer-led organisation that offers Scouting opportunities to 47 young people with additional support needs across Glasgow.
They have always ensured that finances do not become a barrier for any young person attending Scouts on a weekly basis or participating in any weekend or summer camps. With a small subscription of £2 – £3 for weekly section meetings (but are flexible with this and it is not essential for those who may be unable to afford it), all the camp fees are donation-based, so families can donate what they can afford towards the cost of camps. As such, they rely heavily on donations and grants to fund these camps to our young people.
Their largest expenses are the weekend camps, which cost roughly £750 to run, and the yearly summer camp, which ranges from £10,000 to £15,000. The 77th Glasgow Disabled Scouts Troop is currently organising a series of weekend camps for each of their Sections, with the Network Section recently spending a weekend at Glengoyne Lodge. Having recently redeveloped their facility, it now provides a sense of freedom and independence that the young people do not often experience in their everyday life.
In the coming months, our Cub, Scout, and Explorer Sections will be undertaking their weekend camps, each featuring unique experiences:

“I would like to personally extend my gratitude for considering the 77th Glasgow Disabled Scouts for a donation.”
